Fall.2

Hello everyone!

The year could not be moving any faster. It is already October of my senior year and I feel like it's been two weeks... It is amazing how fast time goes!
Though the time passes quicker with every moment, I have been doing a serious amount of stuff. One of these things is the St. Mary’s production of Macbeth. Currently we are heading into tech week, personally my favorite time of the play. I am a witch, which sounds awful, but it's really an awesome role. We get to be scary and have tons of metaphorical lines!
In another section of my life, I have started a class in the Reynolds Middle SUN Program. There are 4 girls in my class and each of them are going to make a film about what makes their community great. I am so excited because it is an amazing opportunity for me to learn about educating but it also an awesome chance for the girls to learn about film and find out if it inspires them. I am unbelievably excited for the outcome!
On a completely different note, Halloween is coming soon! The fall dance at SMA is upcoming and lots of girls are excited because the theme is Halloween Costumes. I hope everyone is planning an awesome costume (hint: the ones that make people laugh are the best).
I hope you all have a fun and candy-filled October!
Thanks for reading,

See you next time!

Back to School!

Hello all!

It looks as if we may have to say a reluctant goodbye to summer and send it on its way. I am an enthusiast of the all year summer but we do have to go to school! I am a senior this year, which is just unbelievable. It feels like I have been at SMA for a blink of an eye and now I am starting a years long finale. I can't imagine what college will be like but for now I am going to focus on my last year at SMA.
I have had a serious change in perspective this year about my classes. I am finally fully and wholeheartedly excited about all the classes I am taking. They range from PSU History of Modern Europe to Musical Theater to Marketing and many others. My year is going to be awesome, I already know it! I hope all you other students out there are feeling the same about your classes. If not, that's okay, you find happiness wherever you go.
Here is to a new year, a fresh start, and an exciting opportunity to make new memories that may last forever.

See you next time,
Here We Go!

DODGEBALL!

Hello all!

The month of February is zooming by and it seems to be going too fast! though all of our time this year has been well spent so far. I think the warm weather is even starting to appear with a spattering of spring rain.
St. Mary's has been partying all of February. Doernbecher Committee put in amazing effort to make this last week of school eventful and fun. More importantly, they raised a wonderful amount of money to donate to the Children's care charities and services. The events this week included spirit themed day, a distinguished dodgeball tournament that ended in senior vs. teachers, and a glow-in-the-dark dance on Friday! Everything was very put together and it ended up accomplishing its goal of raising money to support medically fragile children.
I am very proud of all the ladies at St. Mary's and I hope we continue to keep of this spirit of service in the year of mercy!

New Years Resolutions?

Hello all!

These few first months of the year have been very busy! Not only is everyone still committed to their New Years resolutions, but they are excited and planning all of the fun for the rest of the year! All of the girls at SMA are doing the same and more.
At the beginning of February many things were going in the St. Mary's community. The second group of juniors experienced Encounter, the little mermaid cast is tirelessly preparing for their show (which opens on Friday Feb. 26th, at 7 pm), and swim team finished up their season with a marvelous record.

I am looking forward to the rest of February as it comes crashing towards us.

New Beginnings:)

Hello Again!

I hope all of you are having a wonderful January. I think it is amazing to have a fresh start and be able to embrace new beginnings! The weather is rainy and grey but that's nothing that us waterproof Portlanders can't handle. :)
St. Mary's has experienced some new things this year already. We are now an Apple Distinguished School, an award that goes out to only a few schools in the country. Along with that, our basketball, swimming and ski teams are doing well and dominating the court!

Ambassadors are now helping to usher in perspective students of 2020 and everyone in the building is excited to see new faces!
Finals are over and girls are slightly more relaxed during the beginning of second semester. Hopefully we can keep the cool calm vibe floating into the new year.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you next time!

Post Holiday Recovery

Hello again!

I had the most wonderful holiday, not to mention a snow day. I hope that all of you also enjoyed your time off. Even though Starbucks no longer has their red cups, I have declared 2016 The Year of Miracles. I am ready for anything that comes my way. I think everyone should declare their year, so I'd love to hear any ideas.

As the new year looms before us, we have to remember to keep our heads up and stay positive in the face of adversity. Finals are coming up next week and for some girls that is stressful. However, we have to keep in mind all the other things lives that are good. Whip cream, friends, family, and laughter are just a few.
My goal for next week is for every SMA girl to try to stay positive and do their best. That is all that's in our control and life is easier when you let stress go.

Thanks for reading and I hope to see you next time!

Holiday Excitement!

Hello friends!
Winter is upon us and the holidays are here! Sadly, I am one of those people that always dreads New Years because I don't want the holidays to end. I love making cookies with family, hanging decorations, and the general mood of happiness that everyone has. Is anyone with me? Anyways, as the year 2015 comes to a close, I thought I would reflect on some of the many great things that happened.
For starters, SMA has done some super amazing things this past year. The Marian's won state, we raised a bunch of money for BBW, there was some super amazing plays, tech for women has become the norm, and all the girls pitched in for christmas families! I am very proud of our community this year and I hope that 2016 is just as good, if not better!
Well... no matter what holiday you celebrate at this time of year, I hope you truly do feel like its the best time of the year! Lets head into this new year with open minds and loving hearts.

Ps. Lets all wish for a White Christmas. I know I am!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving, a time to get together with family and eat tons of delicious food. This past weekend, we enjoyed a five day weekend that celebrated nothing but family and food. Of course, everyone was thankful and reflective as they sat around eating turkey and mashed potatoes. However, as Thanksgiving wraps up and fall starts to turn to winter, I hope everyone begins to feel a bit of the holiday spirit.
The cold, holiday weather in Portland is starting to inspire SMA girls into the fashion trend of warm outfits with comfy coats and knee-high boots. St. Mary's students are also getting into the holidays by putting up decorations all around the school and starting secret santa gifts. The Marian Singers are just about to start their Christmas performances and their long tradition of Christmas grams! Hopefully, every student will receive some holiday tidings in the form of lovely music. Finally, many students are beginning fall/winter sports and getting involved in wonderful things like TedxSma, Model United Nations, etc.
The season of chunky sweaters, boots, warm cookies and holiday smiles is coming and I hope that there is enough of these wonderful things to spread all around the SMA community and to the world!

Here we come December!

Holidays are coming!

Hello all!

All I can say is, it's red cup season! For anyone of you who are wondering what that means, it is simply an expression (linked to Starbucks changing to red cups) to say, it is Winter! In my mind this translates to thanksgiving, food filled with carbs, lots of sugary delectables, gifts galore, and a general aroma of holiday delight!

Many things have been going on at St. Mary's as we wind up for the holiday season. On October 30th we had many girls dressed up in their Halloween costumes ready for the weekend to begin. Also, many shadow visitors have been passing through the halls. Along those same lines, ambassadors just finished up St. Mary's Open House on November 1st. In the holiday spirit, the Marian singers are soon going to begin the busy holiday gig season. Change is in the air at SMA as our new and improved dress code is now being implemented, our fall sports ended making way for winter, and our students are sinking warmly into quarter two.

When I see you next, let's hope there is some snow on the ground! Thanks for reading and see you next time!

Blues Bridge Walk

Hello all!

Yet again, this month has passed by in a flash. As we run head first towards Halloween and the best months of the year (Christmas, am I right?), there are tons of things to reflect on in October. Firstly, all the sophomores and juniors survived the PSAT's on Wednesday! Also, we had a very successful Blues Bridge Walk Fundraiser, and danced the night away at the Father Daughter Dance.

Blues Bridge Walk was a fun day for everyone. The girls of SMA walked the route around the Portland waterfront and then returned back to St. Mary's for some fun treats. All the students were excited because we reached our goal of $100,000! Who doesn't want a day off?
In a similar fashion, the wonderful girls of St. Mary's danced the night away with their dads at SMA Father Daughter Dance. The "All Around the World" themed party had some great food and a funny Photo Booth. The fashion at the dance was amazing, every girl was in her best dress and heels!
As the wintery, cold months approach I see more and more houses dressed in festive decorations. My favorite are crazy pumpkins. Also, I hope to see some crazy, creative costumes this year!

Hopefully, we can have a great month, just like October.

Thanks for reading and see you next time!

The Beginning

Hello all!
Is it just me or did summer go by too fast? I think we needed one more month! No matter how many times I write letters to the president, I doubt it will ever change. So, inevitably, school has started.
The first week of school, the hallways were filled with all the new runway looks. It seems that this year our catwalk has not only featured the beloved color "Army Green" but they're on the edgier sides of fashion.
In the past week, a lot has gone on. Back to School night was last night for parents and families to get acquainted with classes schedules, The Marian Singers head off to their annual retreat, and our JV Volleyball team won in a game against Tigard. Though the Varsity team was not as successful, they still played hard till the end.
Even thought the school year is tough and we may be challenged sometimes, with some coffee, SMA determination and the love of our peers we get through this year. Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,
Lucy Sagoo
